Colon hydrotherapy is a safe, gentle infusion of warm filtered water into the rectum using no chemicals or drugs. It is a restorative, painless procedure, both relaxing and effective. Colon hydrotherapy is an extended and more complete form of an enema. The enema's cleansing activity is limited to the area of the rectum and to shorter periods of time due to the body's natural wish to expel material and water. The colon hydrotherapy method extends beyond to cleanse the entire large intestine and offer greater cleansing and therapeutic benefits. Enemas or laxatives may precipitate dehydration in the individual, while colon hydrotherapy improves the hydration status of the individual.
Why do people receive Colon Hydrotherapy ?
- Many receive the treatments during a period of lifestyle change or as a preventive measure.
- Athletes have opted for colon hydrotherapy to improve metabolic efficiency.
- Another group manifests symptoms of intestinal distress; constipation (some from prescription drugs), carbohydrate indigestion, diarrhea, gas, bloat, hemorrhoids, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulitis, colitis, parasites, skin conditions such as psoriasis, shingles, and eczema, inability to lose weight, scar tissue and adhesions from surgery.
- Another group is pain motivated; abdominal pain, continuous headaches and migraines, back or shoulder pain, aching joints, gout.
- A number of clients are immune-compromised with lupus, MS, rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis, cancer, chronic fatigue, Epstein-Barre, candida, infections, colds or influenza.
- Colon hydrotherapy sessions are used for medical reasons: pre- and post-surgery or barium x-ray, stool samples and geriatric.
- A number come in during a fast, a cleansing program, a raw food diet, a liver and/or gallbladder flush, or recovering from an accident.
- Some are working on emotional issues which they feel are physiologically rooted in their intestines.
What about just plain old Constipation ?
Except for a tiny percentage of specific cases, constipation is easily and completely correctable. Constipation contributes to: allergies, arthritis, skin problems, prostate problems, female problems, headaches, overweight and all colon problems from diverticulitis to cancer.
Causes of constipation are:
- Prescription drugs – first make sure your medication is not making you constipated. Your physician will be able to tell you.
- Lack of water
- Lack of exercise
- Diet – a steady diet of processed foods will cause all kinds of problems, not the least of which is constipation. Raw foods contain enzymes which aid in digestion and contribute to a healthier colon.
- Lack of fiber – Most people would not recognize healthy stool because it is different from what many have learned. When you have plenty of water, fiber and roughage in your diet, your stool should be large, soft, and somewhat loose. Loose does not mean runny, but a well-formed stool. Stool that is small and tubular in shape is generally not a healthy stool.
- Oil – lack of oil or the wrong types of oil (hydrogenated) in the diet will also contribute to constipation.
- Nutritional Deficiency – the greatest nutritional cause of constipation is lack of sufficient vitamin B in the diet. If there is an insufficient vitamin B, the muscular action will be impaired. The end result can be constipation and a flaccid, stretched out and even prolapsed colon.
- Hormones – a sluggish thyroid can interfere with the hormones that aid in gut reactions. Many thyroid conditions go undiagnosed. This can be an insidious problem and a serious cause of constipation. As long as you suffer from sluggish thyroid function you may find it impossible to become regular and enjoy normal bowel function.
- Structural problems with the colon – most of these are readily correctable. The most common is a combination of "lazy gut" (usually brought on by a vitamin B deficiency" and prolapsion.
